Our Story
How a decade of youth development work in South Africa became a program for Baltimore County families.
We believe sports are a platform for helping youth realize their potential on and off the field. A place where children build confidence, develop character, make friends, and begin to see who they can become.
That belief was shaped over more than a decade of youth development work in South Africa, where our founder, Ryan McGonigle, helped build a sports and community center serving hundreds of young people each week.
Along the way, one lesson became clear:
When children discover they belong, that they matter, and that they are capable of more than they realized, they become more confident, more connected, and more willing to try hard things. That insight became the foundation of Ikamva Sports.
Today, Ryan lives in Baltimore County with his wife and two daughters. As both a father and youth development professional, he understands the trust parents place in the adults who influence their children.
That's why we don't measure success only by goals scored, games won, or skills developed. We measure success by who children become.
Every child who joins Ikamva should leave feeling:
Known. Valued. Empowered.
Because stronger futures are built when children believe in themselves, belong to a community, and discover who they can become.
